New CLP classification and labelling

 

New classification and labelling rules according to the CLP regulation*

The new classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) rules came into force in January 2009 pursuant to the Regulation of the European Parliament and Council (EC) no. 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008.

According to the transitional measures specified in the above-mentioned regulation from 1 June 2015 preparations (mixtures) shall be classified, labelled and packed according to the new guidelines.

The changes apply to:

  • risk phrases (R-phrases) – replaced by hazard statements (H)

  • safety phrases (S-phrases) – replaced by precautionary statements (P)

  • indications of danger – replaced by signal words (danger or warning)

 

  • danger symbols on an orange background – replaced by diamond shaped pictograms with a red frame

Information about the dangers arising out of the use of chemical products, in the form of pictograms and warnings, can be found on the label and in the safety data sheet.
